Shasta Gardens was originally intended to house farm laborers in the community of Orland, CA and continues to be subsidized by the USDA. While there are fewer farm laborers now, there is still limited rental housing in Orland, and the property is a critical resource for those who need it.

While many upgrades were completed, the most impactful ones included replacing aging roofs with cool-roof shingles, adding energy-efficient windows, replacing the siding and integrating PV solar to offset community consumption. Also, four of the units were converted from 2-bedroom into 3-bedroom homes to allow housing for larger families. The upgrades will serve the community for decades to come.
